Beaver Creek is a community that can be found in Yukon, Canada with an approximate population of 140 residents year round and 200 in the summer months. It is located at the Historical Mile 1202 of the Alaska Highway. This presents its location to be close to the Alaska-Yukon border, making it Canada’s westernmost community. It is also home to the Beaver Creek Airport. The main employers of Beaver Creek include the White First Nation, a Canada Customs post and a number of tourist lodges.
Its location next to the Canada/US border makes the historic community of Beaver Creek a natural stopping point for visitors travelling along the Alaska Highway. It has a range of helpful visitor services including comfortable accommodation, friendly local restaurants and a Yukon Visitor Information Center.
Traditionally the area around Beaver Creek was home to the Upper Tanana people who camped there on their seasonal migration. In the early 1900’s, the settlement of Beaver Creek was recognized as a camp for the team surveying the Canada-Alaska border. Afterward, mining interest developed in the area and in the 1940’s and the Alaska Highway was constructed. In the mid-1950’s, a Canada Customs post was constructed and the community of Beaver Creek began to develop.
